ADHD Counselling & Coaching Herne Bay | Jessica Shepherd

🧠✨ Why This Page Looks a Bit Different (and Why That’s a Good Thing!)

Welcome to a space designed with you in mind.

Did you know that over 65% of neurodivergent individualsβ€”especially those with ADHD and Autismβ€”are visual learners? That means we often understand and retain information better through images, layout, colour, and flow, rather than long blocks of text. Traditional websites can feel overwhelming, hard to navigate, or just plain exhausting. Not here.

This page is intentionally crafted to be inclusive, visually supportive, and neurodivergent-friendly. You'll notice:

  • βœ… Clear sections and headings
  • 🎨 Calming visuals and bold icons
  • 🧭 Easy navigation so you never feel lost
  • πŸ’¬ Simple, jargon-free language
  • πŸ’‘ Flexible options to book how it works for you

Whether you're here for ADHD counselling in Herne Bay, coaching, or you're exploring support for your neurodivergent child or teenβ€”you've found your people. This is a safe, non-clinical, human-first space. We believe therapy should feelaccessible before it even begins.

So take your time, scroll at your pace, and if it helpsβ€”grab a brew while you explore. You’re very welcome here. 🌈

🧠 ADHD Counselling Programmes

For Adults, Teens, Children (10+), Families, Parents & Couples

πŸ” What Is ADHD Counselling?

ADHD counselling helps you build executive functioning skills β€” the mental toolkit that supports focus, motivation, memory, emotional regulation, and decision-making.

Whether you're:

  • An adult navigating daily overwhelm
  • A teen struggling with focus and friendships
  • A parent wanting to better support your child
  • A couple facing communication breakdowns

There’s a programme tailored for you.

🧰 Executive Skills We Target

Think of these like your brain’s control centre:

🧨 Response Inhibition – The ability to pause and think before acting, helping to avoid impulsive decisions.
🧠 Working Memory – Holding and using information while doing tasks; remembering instructions or what you came into the room for.
❀️ Emotional Control – Managing strong feelings like frustration, anxiety, or excitement to stay on track.
πŸ” Flexibility – Being able to adapt when things change, plans shift, or unexpected challenges come up.
🎯 Sustained Attention – Staying focused on something (even if it's boring!) without drifting off or jumping to another task.
🚦 Task Initiation – Getting started without procrastinating or freezing up β€” even on things you don’t want to do.
πŸ—ΊοΈ Planning & Prioritising – Figuring out how to tackle goals step by step, and knowing what’s most important right now.
πŸ“¦ Organisation – Keeping track of things β€” whether it’s your thoughts, schedule, workspace, or digital files.
⏰ Time Management – Understanding time, using it wisely, and meeting deadlines without last-minute chaos.
πŸ₯… Goal-Directed Persistence – Sticking with a task or goal until it’s done, even when distractions or obstacles show up.
πŸͺž Metacognition – Being aware of how you think and problem-solve β€” reflecting on what’s working (or not).
πŸ’₯ Stress Tolerance – Staying grounded in high-pressure or unpredictable situations, without burning out.

πŸ—“οΈ How Sessions Work

πŸ”„ You choose the pace β€” weekly, bi-weekly, or flexibly based on what works for you.

πŸ’¬ We:

  • Identify where you’re stuck
  • Set achievable goals
  • Learn + repeat new strategies
  • Reinforce those until they stick

πŸ•°οΈ Real Talk: Lasting change takes time.
We recommend 6+ months for meaningful growth β€” especially for rewiring habits and routines.

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§ Who Can Access This?

βœ… Adults with ADHD
βœ… Teenagers
βœ… Children (age 10+)
βœ… Parents of ADHD kids
βœ… Couples navigating ADHD dynamics

⚠️ Important: Counselling works best when the individual wants to engage. If a child isn’t ready, we’ll explore alternatives or pause β€” and I’ll keep you in the loop.

πŸ‘ͺ Parent Counselling

You're not alone. Learn how to:

  • Support your child emotionally + practically
  • Set helpful boundaries
  • Build skills that stick
    πŸ—“οΈ Weekly or bi-weekly

πŸ’‘ Relationship Counselling

ADHD can affect communication, memory, and emotional responses. Together, we’ll:

  • Explore what ADHD means for your relationship
  • Set shared goals
  • Improve understanding, connection + empathy

πŸ’‘ β€œAm I Too Old to Change?”

Nope. That’s a myth.

Your brain can learn and adapt at any age β€” that’s called neuroplasticity.
If you're ready to grow, it's 100% possible. Let’s work with your brain, not against it.

🧠 Growth mindset = game-changer.

Frequently Asked Questions

For any unanswered questions, please contact us at email@jessicashepherdcounselling.com.

Children aged 6 and above can be assessed for ADHD, extending up to adulthood.

The total cost for the assessment is Β£100, which includes the assessment meeting and the provision of assessment results.

This assessment can be conducted either face-to-face or via Zoom.

The duration of the assessment will range from 90 minutes to 2 hours, with breaks provided as needed. I will utilise an assessment form known as ACE+. During this assessment, you will be asked questions regarding both current symptoms and historical symptoms.

Following the assessment, I will compile the results and provide you with a summary based on the findings. Please note that this assessment is not a diagnosis; rather, it serves to help you understand whether the symptoms you are experiencing may be related to ADHD or potentially attributable to other factors.

It is helpful to prepare the following information prior to your assessment:

  1. Previous Diagnoses and Medications: Please note any prior diagnoses and the medications you are currently taking. This includes any childhood medical conditions that may be related to ADHD.
  2. Childhood Trauma: Information regarding any childhood trauma is important, such as premature birth, low birth weight, head injuries resulting in loss of consciousness, maternal smoking or substance misuse during pregnancy, and birth-related trauma (e.g., nuchal cord).
  3. Previous Assessments: If you have previously undergone assessments for ADHD or cognitive abilities, please bring along the results if possible.
  4. Family Medical History: It is important to consider your family medical history, particularly concerning neurodevelopmental conditions, learning difficulties, or psychiatric disorders.
  5. Childhood Symptoms: If possible, it would be beneficial to speak with your parents prior to the assessment to discuss your behaviour at school and home during childhood. Consider whether you exhibited any signs of ADHD that may not have been recognised at the time but have become clearer now. Did your school reports comment on your behaviour? Did you encounter disciplinary issues during your teenage years? Gathering this information will be advantageous for your assessment.

The assessment will facilitate a referral to NHS services for formal diagnosis and medication management.
